Nuevo Portil is built on pleasant undulating terrain, the course lies close to the beaches of El Portil with occasional views over the sea. The well designed holes meander between the mature pine trees and water hazards providing a really enjoyable day out with some holes needing a well placed long drive and others requiring a little strategy.

Web: www.castromarimgolfe.com

Course : 27 hole, Par 71-72, length 5265-5774 m

Set amongst the hills overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, Guadiana River and neighbouring Spain, practically every hole stands alone in its own valley. Blending into the natural contours of the hilly terrain, Castro Marim has a unique charm to it and is challenging for all level of golfer with excellent greens and a premium on accuracy rather than length.

El Rompido

Web: www.golfelrompido.es

South Course: 18 hole, Par 72, Length 6148 m
North Course: 18 hole, Par 72, Length 6095 m

The south course has two contrasting halves, with the first nine bordering the Las Marismas nature park, with many well planned holes incorporating the natural hazards that the wet lands and pine trees offer. The second nine give a better chance to open the shoulders and go for a few birdies.
The North course have more of a Parkland feel , slightly shorter but just as tricky as the north, some great country side views.
It’s a good test.

Bellavista

Telephone: 00 34 959 319 017

Web: www.golfbellavista.com

Course: 18 hole, Par 70, Length 5775 m

This is one of the oldest courses in this area and the oldest members club in Spain. circa. 1916. Bellavista is an often underestimated course with many well placed umbrella pine trees, the odd tricky upturned saucer-shaped green, tough par3's and at least two world class holes. All in all a pleasant course that will reward the “in form” golfer and challenge those not quite on their usual game.
Well worth a visit for a real spanish golf club experience, a beer and a snack at the 19th is always eventful.

Quinta da Ria

Telephone: 00 351 281 950 580

Web: www.quintadariagolf.com

Ria course: 18 Hole, Par 72, Length 6053 m
Cima course: 18 Hole, Par 72, Length 6586 m

Two exceptional courses designed by architect Rocky Roquemore. The Ria course is the more scenic of the two, with spectacular views over the protected Ria Formosa Nature Reserve and along the coastline. Both courses meander between ancient olive and carob trees, many transplanted to frame the fairways, giving you the feeling that the courses are also in their centenary. The well positioned water features enhance certain holes and also add to the overall harmony created here. The Cima course is generally considered the tougher challenge of the two.

Islantilla

Telephone: 00 34 959 486 039

Web: www.islantillagolfresort.com

Course: 27 hole, Par 71/72, Length 6515-6716 m

Close to the beach village of La Antilla with fantastic sea views from many holes the course opened in 1991 and after only two years it played host to a PGA European tour event, proving how highly rated this Enrique Canales-designed course had become. Although there are now houses along many of the fairways, this does not interfere or detract from the excellent golf to be found here.

Benamor

Web: www.golfbenamor.com

Course: 18 hole, Par 71, Length 5,500 m

Designed by the late sir Henry Cotton who was inspired by the fantastic location with views to the Atlantic and to the north the mountains of the interior. The result is a delightful par 71 course of 5,500 metres offering a pleasant playing experience to all levels of golfer. The course is undulating but not hilly with well placed bunkers and indigenous olive, cork, carob and fig trees making it a good test of strategy and ball striking.

Costa Esuri

Web: www.costaesurigolfclub.com

West Course : 18 hole, Par 72, length 6607m

This resort has two courses, the first of which opened in December 2006. The renowned golf architect Jose Canales has designed a links style course at over 6.600mtrs. The layout runs along the banks of the Guadiana River which is the natural border to Portugal. The second course is situated in the rolling hills that overlook the river, with more definition to the holes, due to the use of the natural valleys, blending the course into the existing landscape.

Monte Rei

Web: golf.monte-rei.com/golf/

North Course: 18 hole, Par 72, Length 6567 m

Set in the picturesque foothills of the Eastern Algarve, with sweeping views of the Serra do Caldeirão mountains to the north and the Atlantic Ocean to the south, the first of two Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Courses is a truly unique design; with water coming into play on eleven of the eighteen holes. In a challenging and distinctive layout, blending into this natural canvas, sculptured bunkers, fairways and greens are bordered by several lakes, indigenous plants, native grasses and trees adding drama to the landscape, and providing golfers with an unforgettable experience.

Isla Canela

Telephone: 00 34 959 477 263

Web: www.golfislacanela.com

Course : 18 hole, Par 72, length 6248 m

This course is on the outskirts of Ayamonte on the island of Canela.
This is a good test of golf, although most of the course is fairly flat it is a long course, many of the holes wind their way between the marshlands with many natural water hazards coming into play! A good course strategy is required so as not to disturb the aquatic wildlife with an errant ball or two!
